What is the purpose of this Personal Data Protection Policy?

This personal data protection policy ("Personal Data Protection Policy: BBVA WhatsApp Channel") is intended to publicize the way in which the personal data that you provide or that is collected through the BBVA Channel (the "Channel") on the WhatsApp social media platform (the "Social Media Platform") is obtained, processed and protected.

Who is responsible for processing my personal data?

BANCO BILBAO VIZCAYA ARGENTARIA, S.A. (hereinafter, "BBVA") with registered office at Plaza de San Nicolás 4, 48005 Bilbao, Spain is the controller of the personal data that will be processed. Email address: consultasgenerales@gdpr.com

What data does BBVA need to process, for what purpose and why (basis of legitimization)?

The type of personal data that BBVA will process will vary depending on whether:

  • You are in the contact list of our corporate account. In this case BBVA, through the Channel administrators, will be able to view your profile photo, profile name, complete telephone number, as well as your reactions to publications and answers to the surveys launched through the channel.
  • You are not in the contact list of our corporate account. In this case BBVA, through the Channel administrators, will only be able to view your profile picture, as well as the reactions and answers to the surveys launched through the Channel.

Please note that you can limit the information that BBVA can access as Channel Manager based on your privacy settings on the Social Media Platform. 

Remember that neither other people who follow the Channel, nor those who just visit it, can see how you interact with the Channel's content. They cannot see your name, telephone number, profile photo, reactions to the content of the channel or how you vote in surveys. In addition, your contacts cannot see which channels you follow or how you interact with a channel's content (unless they manage a channel you follow). 

The aforementioned personal data will be provided to BBVA by WhatsApp Ireland Limited through the Social Media Platform and will be processed by BBVA for the sole purpose of managing the Channel through which it will share content about BBVA that may be of interest to you, including content about our products and services. The basis of legitimacy is BBVA's legitimate interest in keeping you informed of content about BBVA that may be of interest to you by accessing the Channel on a voluntary basis. 

Remember that being part of the Channel as a user is completely voluntary, so whenever you want you can exercise your right of opposition by unfollowing the Channel by clicking on "Unfollow the channel".

BBVA processes your personal data with absolute confidentiality, with the commitment to keep it secret and to adopt all necessary measures to prevent its alteration, loss, unauthorized processing or access, in accordance with the legal obligations that apply to BBVA as the party responsible for the processing of your personal data. BBVA has implemented and maintains the highest levels of security required by legislation to protect your personal data against accidental loss and unauthorized access, processing or disclosure, given the state of technology, the nature of the stored data and the risks to which they are exposed.

How long will your data be kept?

We will keep your personal data until you decide to unsubscribe from the BBVA Channel by clicking on the "Stop following the channel" button or you unsubscribe from the Social Media Platform.

Will my data be disclosed to another party?

Your personal data will not be disclosed to any third party unless we are required to do so by law. Please note, however, that BBVA may engage third party companies to process your data on BBVA's behalf as part of the services we have contracted them to provide. In any case, BBVA enters into contracts with service providers that guarantee data processing in accordance with BBVA's instructions and in full compliance with the applicable data protection regulations.
