A unique twelve-character alphanumeric code that identifies an issue or financial instrument at the international level. The ISIN code is widely used in the trading, clearing and settlement of securities both nationally and internationally. In Spain, ISIN codes are assigned by the National Securities Encoding Agency (Agencia Nacional de Codificación de Valores), under the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
