How to open an account with two account holders

We'll tell you what you have to do to open an online account with two account holders.
If you want to have an account for two account holders, you can open one at bbva.es, via the BBVA App, or at any of our branches. We recommend that both account holders are present when opening the account.

Here's how to do it:

Follow the steps detailed here

* Remember to indicate that there will be two account holders.

Important: during the registration process, you will have to choose one of these two methods to verify your identity:

Iberpay: Using an account number from another bank.

You can use the same account number to identify both account holders if the number provided is also for a joint account. Within about 10-12 days (once you've provided all the required documentation), you will receive an email notifying you that your account is operational, at which point you will be able to make deposits and payments normally. You will also be able to access your respective global position to verify the status of issuing each of the cards.

By courier: Identification in person.

If you choose the "Courier" option, at the end of the process a phone number will be displayed so you can get in touch* with the courier company used by BBVA. You can arrange for a joint or individual appointment at the address you provide. The courier will pick up the documentation and verify the data provided. Once this process is complete, both account holders will receive an email and an SMS to let you know that your account is operational and that you can access your global position.

* If for some reason you are unable to contact the courier company to arrange an appointment, they will contact you by calling your cell phone to try to set up a date and time to pick up the documentation.

* Be sure to specify that there are two account holders.

Recommendations for the process:

  1. Both account holders must be of legal age (18 or older).
  2. Have a National ID Number (DNI in Spanish) or Foreigner Identification Number (NIE in Spanish). We recommend you have ready and stored in the computer the photos of both documents.
  3. Both account holders should have their cell phones to hand so they can sign the contracts that BBVA will send free of charge to the phone numbers stipulated on the form.
