A credit rating or score is derived from an assessment of a company's (or asset issuer's) ability to pay back its debt obligations in the future.

The rating is established based on a scale that he goes from a maximum credit quality (AAA), to an intermediate quality (BBB), and finally a minimum quality (CCC).

The lower the credit quality, the higher the interest rate demanded to offset the risk taken by the investor.
