      Cuenta de Pago Básica

      Your basic account for the most common transactions.

      • For one or more account holders.
      • Possibility of linking a debit or pre-paid card.
      • No-cost online transactions.

      How does it work?

      • The Cuenta de Pago Básica is a euro-denominated account for personal and non-professional use by individuals of legal age.

        • This account can be opened by anyone legally residing in the European Union, including asylum seekers and people without a residence permit who cannot be deported, provided they do not hold a similar account with another bank in Spain.
        • There can be one or more account holders, who must comply with the previously explained terms and conditions.
        • You do not need to take out any other product or additional service.

        You can sign up for this account at any BBVA branch. Before signing the contract, you will receive all the pre-contractual information you need.

      What services are included?

      • This account comes with the following services:

        • Account opening, use and closure.
        • Deposit of cash in euros.
        • Cash withdrawals in euros at BBVA branches or ATMs located in Spain or other European Union Member States.
        • Payments using a debit or pre-paid card, including online payments in the European Union.
        • Payment transactions in euros within the European Union, consisting of scheduled debits orders and transfers, including payments made in execution of standing orders, in BBVA branches and online.
        • You can also link a debit or pre-paid card and make payments online.

      Charges and fees

      • For the services indicated in the section "What services are included?", BBVA will charge a maximum, one-time, all-inclusive fee of €3. APR: -1.79% for a constant daily balance of €2,000 for one year.

        This fee includes: 

        • Ahora debit card or Antes pre-paid card with no issue and maintenance fee for each account holder.
        • Up to 120 annual payment transactions in euros within the European Union consisting of payments made to perform direct debits and transfers, including payments made to perform permanent transfer orders in BBVA branches and BBVA online services. Instant transfers are not included.

        Standard transfers performed in euros to any European Union country and Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland, where over 120 transactions per year, are subject to the following costs:

        • Made at bbva.es, phones and BBVA ATMs: with no issue fee.
        • Made in branch: 0.40% on the amount (minimum €4).

        Other common services:

        • Negotiation and clearing of checks 0.30% of the amount (minimum €3).
        • Transfers to all other destinations and/or currencies and the instant transfers made by the Customer will be subject the condition stated by BBVA in the charges, fees and expenses schedule. 
        • For cash withdrawals by debit card at ATMs belonging to a bank other than the BBVA Group in Spain in euros, BBVA will charge the same amount as the fee it is charged by the bank that owns the ATM. This amount will be provided by the bank that owns the ATM before the cash withdrawal.

        The customer may always access information on fees or expenses resulting from any other services and all appropriate explanations on the BBVA website or app, as well as other available distribution channels.

      To open a Cuenta de Pago Básica, you must legally reside in the European Union, be an asylum seeker, or if you do not yet have a residence permit you must not be in conditions to be deported. Moreover, you must not already have an account that offers the same banking services and transactions with another bank in Spain in the conditions described.

      Residents of the European Union

      • Spanish nationals: National Identity Document including the NIF (Tax ID).
      • EU foreigners: passport or identification document valid in the country of origin that includes a photograph + certificate of residence in an EU country.
      • Non-EU foreigners: passport or identification document valid in the country of origin that includes a photograph + certificate of residence in an EU country or European Residence Card.

      Asylum seekers in Spain

      • Red Card in force.
      • Receipt of the filing of an application for international protection.
      • Receipt of the filing of an application for temporary protection.

      Without a residency permit but whose expulsion is not possible

      • Identification document valid in the country of origin or passport (provided that they feature a photograph of the holder)

      If all holders and authorized holders of a Cuenta de Pago Básica are recognized as being particularly vulnerable or at risk of financial exclusion, the maximum, single and joint fee for the aforementioned services will be €0.

      Who is at risk of particular vulnerability or at risk of financial exclusion?

      The following are particularly vulnerable or at risk of financial exclusion: 

      • Customers whose gross economic income, calculated annually and per family unit, does not exceed the following thresholds: 
        • Three times the multiplier for the Public Income Index over twelve payments, valid at the time of the request for people not integrated into any family unit. 
        • Three and a half times this indicator for people integrated into one of the family unit types with less than four members. 
        • Four times this indicator in family units made up of four or more members or which have a recognized status as a large family in accordance with the current regulations. 
        • Four times this indicator in a family unit with a member who has a disability level of 33% or more officially recognized by a ruling issued by the Institute of the Elderly and Social Services or by the competent body of the Autonomous Communities. 
      • Customers which, including all the members of their family unit, do not hold direct or indirect ownership or a beneficial right to immovable property, excluding their main residence, or beneficial ownership of commercial companies.
      • People who are victims of trafficking or sexual exploitation will be exempt from complying with the two previous sections. This condition may be certified through the standard verification form issued by social services or a company specializing in the subject.

      How can I request this for free?

      The customer may request a situation of particular vulnerability by filling in the form that will be given to them together with the rest of the documentation of the Cuenta de Pago Básica and providing the documentation stated in that document.

      What documentation do I have to submit?

      Accreditation of the circumstances that will give rise to the free nature of the account. All the holders and authorized persons must meet this requirement. The following documentation must be provided in relation to all the persons that make up the family unit. 

      • In order to accredit the number of people that make up the family unit, it is necessary to provide the libro de familia (family book) or document accrediting registration as a civil partnership. 
      • To prove receipt of income by members of the family unit, one of the following documents must be provided: 
        • Income certificate, and where applicable, a certificate relating to the filing of Wealth Tax, issued by the State Tax Administration Agency or the competent body of the Autonomous Community, where applicable, with regard to the last tax year. 
        • Last three paychecks received. 
        • A certificate issued by the company managing unemployment benefits or subsidies, which includes the monthly amount received for these items. 
        • Certificate accrediting social salaries, minimum insertion income or similar social aid granted by Autonomous Communities and local entities. 
        • In the case of a self-employed worker, a certificate issued by the management body showing the monthly amount received if he/she is receiving the cessation of activity benefit.

      If the customer does not have the documentation mentioned in the previous section, you must provide a report stating the composition of the family unit or providing the grounds for suitability for access to a free Cuenta de Pago Básica. You must request this report from the social services of the council where you are registered. 

      If you are a victim of trafficking or sexual exploitation, you have to provide the standard verification form issued by social services or a company specializing in the subject.

      If the customer obtains recognition of the right to a free Cuenta de Pago Básica, the effects of this recognition will apply from the request date.

      Special scheme for people from Ukraine: go to any BBVA branch where they will inform you about how to open your Cuenta de Pago Básica and the conditions for the application of this free scheme.

If you do not agree with the final decision on your claim or complaint, and you have exhausted all the channels that the Bank has provided in the statutory time frame, you can contact the Bank of Spain Claims Service (Calle Alcalá 48 28014 Madrid).

      There is no overdraft facility on this account.

      No, the Cuenta de Pago Básica does not have a checkbook or passbook.
