Returning the amount invested to the holders of a security. Although shares may also be repaid in certain cases, this term refers more commonly to fixed-income securities: the issuer cancels its debt with the investors, either by returning the capital upon maturity or as an early repayment. Early repayment can be total or partial. Furthermore, the option for repayment may correspond to the investor or the issuer as stipulated in the terms and conditions of the issue.
