Volatility is a measurement of the percentage of variability estimated by the markets on which an asset is traded over a specific time period. The volatility of an asset predicts how much the average yield expected for it could fluctuate. More volatility means more fluctuation in this average and therefore more risk. A volatile security means one that could experience major fluctuations.
