      • Collection by SEPA direct debit mandates (Rulebook 19 of the AEB, the Spanish Banking Association) allows issuing customers to:

        • Optimize the transaction value dates applied to the deposits by streamlining the filing of debit entries.
        • Reduce administrative costs by eliminating paperwork and other types of physical media.
        • Optimize recovery stocks, by having punctual, detailed information of the refunds on the same day they are charged.

      Some questions that may come up

      Direct debits are a banking service that enables you to collect payments from your customers using a direct debit order. The direct debit order signed by your customer enables automatic collection, as it authorizes the creditor to withdraw payment from the debtor's account.

      There are 2 types of SEPA direct debits, which are:

      • CORE: this debit method enables you to make payments in euros directly to your customer's account.
      • B2B: enables euro collections between companies and professionals (including the self-employed), and, unlike CORE, necessitates prior approval of the mandate by the debtor at their financial institution. 

      Each type of SEPA debit involves a different mandate model.

      The repayment period for a SEPA direct debit will depend on several factors:

      • If it is a SEPA CORE debit: the debtor or payer of the SEPA direct debit has 8 weeks to return the SEPA direct debit, with the possibility of extending to 13 months in the following cases:
        • No mandate exists or, if it does exist, it has not been signed.
        • Mandatory information does not appear in the mandate or direct debit mandate. If, on the other hand, it is returned by the bank, the repayment period of the SEPA mandate is 5 days (from the date of collection).
      • If it is a SEPA B2B debit: the bank has 2 days to make the repayment. The bank may return it due to lack of funds, incorrect data, etc. Whereas the customer is not entitled to do so.

      The mandate reference is a piece of information that is included in all debits sent from that mandate. In turn, each debit has its own unique identification.
